De-Icers How to choose the right one

What are you, de-icing?

  • Dock
  • Boat House
  • Fish Pond

 Types of de-icers

  • Aeration
  • Circulators

 Aeration

  • Subsurface
    • Carries warm water from the bottom of the water to the surface preventing ice build-up.
  • Surface Aeration
    • Max water flow and oxygen transfer.
  • Uses: Fish Pond, Docks, Boat Houses

 Circulator

  • Circulators circulate warm water from the bottom of the water to the surface of the water.
  • It also can spread water laterally to push ice away from a dock system.
  • Uses: Docks, and Boat Houses

 Tips

  • When using circulators, use timers or temperature sensors.
  • Setup your de-ice system appropriately.
    • For a personal dock, keep a narrow body of water around the dock open.
    • Use circulators to keep ice from hitting a dock on a river.
    • Use de-icers to keep a marina clear of ice.
  • Verify run times. You may only need to run your de-icer 2-4 hours per day depending on the de-icing situation.
  • Check with your state for permits and signage.
